Jodi Gordon (Martha Mackenzie, Home and Away)

Jodi Gordon who plays Martha Mackenzie in Home and Away was in the UK in July 2007 with castmates Mark Furze (Ric) and Kate Ritchie (Sally) to promote the show.

Here is a selection of the some of the questions we asked Jodi when she was a guest on The Soap Show.

Before you were an actor you worked for many years as a model, didn't you?

Yes, I was very lucky, I started modelling when I was about 13. My mum entered me into a competition and I won that and it kind of went from there. I did a lot of travelling, Japan, lots of islands, I lived in Milan for about nine months, then I went to London, and around Europe, so I definitely got to travel a lot when I was younger! I love travelling and as much as I also love being at home, it's always great to get out and see different parts of the world.

When you were modelling did you have any ambitions to be an actor?

I'd always done drama at school, but I'd never really taken it seriously until I started to go for some acting lessons to go for the part on Home & Away, so it kind of escalated from there and now I am serious about it.

Did you watch Home & Away before you were in it?

Yes, I did. It's one of those shows I grew up watching – and Neighbours as well (laughs)! I think every kid grows up watching them.

Could you have ever imagined at that time you would one day be Alf Stewart's granddaughter?!

No! Sometimes I think imagine if I'd been told back then that one day I'd be on Home & Away I probably would have freaked out!

The thing that everybody wants to know is whether Martha and Jack will get back together...

Ah yes, the question..! Well, I hope they do, but I don't write the scripts, so I don't know. They've been through such a long, rocky road and they need to sort themselves out and figure out what they really want before they can be together, if they ever will be together. We'll see what the future holds. I like them together, I think they're great. If they could just respect each other a bit more and Martha wasn't such a hothead then I think the relationship could work.

But when a young couple get together in a soap, often there isn't anywhere else to take the characters is there?

Exactly, and I think that's why they keep them apart. Maybe it would be kind of boring if they did get back together.

You're over in the UK at the moment, what's the most interesting thing you've done so far?

Probably going shopping! I had a day off on Monday so we all went shopping and that was great. The fashion here is incredible, so it was so much fun to go shopping and see what's coming up. It's great to have clothes that are a season ahead.

So you'll be taking all the latest things home with you?

Yep! (laughs). It's great.
