Johnny Briggs (Fin Morgan, Echo Beach)

“Fin’s a weathered Cornishman who owns a caravan site where the surfers come to stay, plus a little café and a shop where all the surfers buy their equipment. Fin is a very well written and thought out character. This is a guy who is out in all weathers, be it snow, rain or sun, and so he doesn’t look tidy or false. They’ve captured the surfer’s life-style beautifully. There hasn’t been a good show about surfing since Baywatch… and that wasn’t really about surfing.

“Fin is miles away from Mike Baldwin and I was chuffed to be asked to do it. As a cast we all had a lot of fun - everyone got on so well and we had four directors who really knew what they were doing. I consider myself to be very lucky. I especially loved the comedy stuff with Gwyneth Powell. There’s a wonderful scene where I take her out for dinner and it’s very funny.

“Moving Wallpaper is interesting because it shows what goes into getting a show to air and some of the comments producers make about actors. If I watched Moving Wallpaper I’d think “I definitely want to watch Echo Beach now.” It’s never been done before – it not just another comedy or another soap. I haven’t been this excited about anything else for a long time. Having said that, with Echo Beach being in High Definition, I thought “who’s that old man on screen”? Then I realised “Oh blimey, it’s me”.
